STORM THREAT: Relief from Heat in Finger Lakes as Cold Front Brings Storms

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

After a week of tropical heat and humidity, the Finger Lakes region will get a brief break as a cold front moves in Sunday evening.

Before the cold front arrives, a pre-frontal trough will pass through late Sunday morning, bringing localized thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Some storms may even produce small hail. These storms will move quickly, minimizing the risk of localized flooding.

The cold front will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms just before sunset. The highest risk of severe storms will be east of Rochester, including the Central and Eastern Finger Lakes. Rain amounts could reach up to an inch in some areas, with heavier downpours possible east of Rochester.
