Wells College Fails to Submit Records Agreements as Closure Nears

  • Staff Report

As Wells College approaches its closure on June 30, it has not complied with requests to finalize where institutional and student records will be stored, according to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The accreditor revealed Thursday that Wells did not submit the required agreements for the permanent storage of student records, according to reporting this week by The Citizen.

Despite Wells announcing Manhattanville University as its legacy partner, Middle States has not received an official agreement between the two institutions. The accreditor requested an updated teach-out plan by June 26.

Following Wells’ sudden closure announcement on April 29, Middle States approved several teach-out agreements for students to continue their studies at other colleges. Recently, Wells parted ways with President Jonathan Gibralter, with Robert Cree and Susan Henking now managing the college.
