Schuyler County historian Gary Emerson revealed a historic marker on Thursday honoring the Freer Opera House, now the site of Jerlando’s Ristorante.

Built in 1860 by George Freer, the three-story building at Franklin and Fourth streets has hosted a variety of events, including conventions with speakers like Susan B. Anthony, dances, graduations, and plays. The first floor has housed retail businesses and restaurants over the years.

The new historic marker, provided by the William C. Pomeroy Foundation, is mounted on the Fourth Street wall of the building.
