J.D. Martinez’s late home run lifts Mets over Diamondbacks in series opener

J.D. Martinez blasted a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning as the New York Mets (23-33) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks (25-31) on Thursday night at Citi Field. 

Ketel Marte gave Arizona a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-run double, but the Mets scored three straight and the bullpen locked it down to secure the win.

Francisco Lindor went 4-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season and a game-tying single. 

Christian Scott surrendered two runs over five innings. Adrian Houser fired two scoreless before Danny Young and Reed Garrett combined to record the final six outs.
