Cayuga Nation Court delivers verdicts in second jury trial

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Cayuga Nation Court held its second jury trial on May 22 and 23, resulting in guilty verdicts for Elijah Jimerson and Teresa Longboat.

After a two-day trial and several hours of deliberation, Longboat was found guilty of Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. Jimerson was found guilty of Menacing in the Second Degree and Resisting Arrest but was acquitted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

The charges stem from a September 3, 2022, incident where Longboat chained herself to the Cayuga Nation Police Department gate and resisted arrest. Jimerson then charged at police with a wooden stake. Both were arrested and booked without further incident. Sentencing is scheduled for July 23, 2024, before Judge Joseph E. Fahey.
