Village of Newark celebrates Community Pride Day

The Village of Newark celebrated its 18th Annual Community Pride Day on May 18, with streets, front yards, and parks getting a fresh and vibrant makeover. Volunteers planted flowers, pulled weeds, and picked up trash, while residents and business owners beautified their properties with colorful blooms.

This year’s contest winners were Patricia and Ron Lootens at 304 West Maple Avenue for the “Most Colorful Natural Flowers in a Newark Resident’s Front Yard” and Runaway Blue Brewing Company at 102 South Main St. for the “Most Colorful Natural Flowers on the Exterior of a Newark Business.” Mayor Jonathan Taylor presented each with a $200 prize for their efforts.

The Community Pride Day Committee expressed gratitude to businesses and organizations supporting the event, including HEP Sales/North Main Lumber/Builder’s Bargain Outlet, Plassche Lumber, Q’s Landscape Enterprise, Inc., Newark Rotary Club, Newark Garden Club, the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, and the Village of Newark. Special thanks were given to Erie Shore Landing Café for providing pastries and quiche, and to organizers Gail Chambers and Barb Wells for their dedication. The committee also thanked all volunteers for their efforts in making the community bloom.
