James Miller, a former Steuben County Assistant District Attorney, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
The 63-year-old could face three to four years in state prison, fines ranging from $15,000 to $150,000, and at least five years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.
The investigation began in May 2021 when New York State Police executed a search warrant at Miller’s Fox Ridge Road residence following a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Authorities discovered that Miller’s email account had uploaded suspected images of child pornography. In March 2023, Miller was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography after over 200 images were found on his electronic devices.
Miller, who retired in early 2021, had served as an assistant prosecutor for eight years and previously worked in the Steuben County Public Defender’s Office for over 20 years.
