A historic school bell, dating back to the 1870s, will be celebrated with a dedication ceremony at Midlakes schools on May 21. Students, staff, community partners, and local dignitaries will gather on the main varsity field to honor the preservation and relocation of the bell, which has been part of the Phelps-Clifton Springs school community for over 150 years.

The ceremony will include student performances highlighting local history and mark the culmination of a months-long effort to preserve and relocate the artifact to the Midlakes One-Room Schoolhouse. The bell, initially buried and forgotten in the mid-1900s, was unearthed during a gymnasium addition and had been displayed at various locations before finding its new home.

The project was supported by the Midlakes One-Room Schoolhouse Committee, local businesses, and community members dedicated to preserving the region’s history.
