A Newark man, Carlos Mattei Jr., was arrested and charged with predatory sexual assault against a child, stemming from an incident that occurred approximately three years ago, State Police reported. The charge, a serious felony, arose after investigators found new evidence while examining an unrelated child sex abuse case. This evidence pointed to a previously unreported assault in the village.
Mattei, 33, was apprehended on Wednesday and subsequently arraigned. He was taken to Wayne County Jail, where he is being held without bail. This swift action reflects the serious nature of the charges against him.
