Waterloo driver ticketed after serious two-car crash on Rt. 96

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson provided an update about the serious crash that was reported earlier at the intersection of State Route 96 and Whiskey Hill Road in Waterloo.

According to a release, deputies responded to a two-car personal injury accident that occurred at the intersection around 10 a.m. on Friday. According to witness statements, an SUV stopped at the intersection on Brewer Road and Route 96, proceeded through the intersection without yielding to a pickup truck that was traveling east bound on Route 96 and caused a collision.


The operator of the pickup truck, who was not identified by authorities, was treated on scene for minor injuries. Both occupants of the SUV had to be extracted due to have damage and the vehicle turned on its side. The operator of the SUV, identified as James Hughes, of Waterloo, was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way.

Waterloo fire department responded to the scene. North Seneca Ambulance and Finger lakes Ambulance treated both occupants inside the SUV and transported them to Geneva General for further evaluation.

The area was closed to traffic while crews worked the scene.
