In Wayne County Michael A. Robinson, a 49-year-old man from Newark, has been sentenced to 25 years to life for the murder of Torey Mathis in Arcadia in June 2021. Robinson was convicted by a jury of both robbery and murder, following an investigation that began when Mathis, aged 52, was found deceased with multiple sharp injuries after failing to appear for work.

The incident unfolded at House’s Hotel on June 7, 2021, when police were called to check on Mathis, leading to the discovery of his body. Wayne County District Attorney Christine K Callanan stated, “A killer has been brought to justice,” highlighting the community’s relief at the sentencing.

This case gained initial attention when Robinson was apprehended following a police operation regarding a stolen vehicle and a tense standoff that led to a school lockout and neighborhood shelter-in-place in Palmyra. The arrest, under dramatic circumstances, eventually tied Robinson to Mathis’s murder, ensuring a significant conviction for Wayne County prosecutors.
