The Bishops’ Storehouse, affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was honored with the 2023 Choose Health Ontario Award at the Ontario County Safety Awards banquet on March 26th. This recognition celebrates significant contributions towards improving the health of residents in Ontario County, highlighting the Storehouse’s impactful food aid initiatives during challenging times.
Facing continued financial difficulties among families and food supply shortages in pantries post-pandemic in 2023, the Storehouse stepped forward with a generous food grant. This initiative resulted in the distribution of 5,000 pounds of essential food items to the community, aiding 850 individuals across 305 households, including seniors, adults, and children. The effort was in collaboration with Ontario County Public Health and the Partnership for Ontario County to ensure effective distribution.
Public Health Director Kate Ott and Todd Campbell, Chairman of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, presented the award, recognizing the Storehouse’s vital role in supporting the community’s nutritional needs. This accolade underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing health disparities and enhancing the well-being of Ontario County residents.
