Auburn, Cayuga County leaders unite: Economic development vision central in annual addresses

Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino and Cayuga County Legislature Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman demonstrated a unified front on economic development during their recent State of the City and County address. Hosted by the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce at Auburn Public Theater, the event highlighted their collaborative effort to enhance the local economy, amidst ongoing deliberations on the future of the Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA).

The partnership aims to streamline economic development services into a “one-stop” resource for businesses, ensuring a cohesive strategy for attraction, retention, and expansion within Cayuga County. This initiative is particularly timely as the region prepares for Micron’s substantial semiconductor chip manufacturing project in nearby Onondaga County, poised to significantly influence central New York’s economic landscape.

As both city and county actively engage in regional economic planning and development efforts, the focus remains on optimizing the local economic development entity, whether it be CEDA or an alternative organization. Giannettino and McNabb-Coleman emphasized their commitment to seizing this critical opportunity for current and future generations, ensuring the region’s readiness to capitalize on its economic potential.
