Geneva police chief remains on leave; city gives no updates

Geneva Police Chief Matt Colton remains on paid administrative leave with no changes to his employment status, city officials confirmed late this week The decision to place Colton on leave in early January follows a personnel investigation, details of which have yet to be disclosed. Despite the ongoing investigation, no disciplinary actions or charges have been announced against Colton.

In the interim, Lt. Ron Eveland has stepped in as acting chief, ensuring the Geneva Police Department’s continued commitment to the safety and well-being of the city’s residents and visitors.

Colton, who has served with the Geneva Police Department for 16 years, was appointed chief in July 2023, succeeding retired Chief Mike Passalacqua.
