BOYS BASKETBALL: Mynderse knocks off Hornell to win Class B1 title

For the first time since 2017 and the 10th time in program history, the Mynderse boys basketball team has won a sectional title.

The No. 2 seeded Blue Devils knocked off the No. 1 seeded Hornell Raiders, 68-59, in the Class B1 finals on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena.

Mynderse jumped to a quick first-quarter lead and led 17-10 after eight minutes. Hornell went on a run in the second quarter and tied the game before the Blue Devils took a 30-28 lead into the locker room. Mynderse came out in the second half and built a 12-point lead, but once again, the Raiders answered back and cut into the deficit. Hornell pushed the gap to three with 2:55 left in regulation, but the Blue Devils pulled away for the victory.

Four players scored in double figures for the Blue Devils. Jake Prayne led with 18 points, John Brady and Anthony Luffman poured in 15 apiece, and Alan Plummer added 14. Luffman was also named tournament MVP.
