WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Light snow, mixed precipitation means cautious travel needed through day

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Expect a mixed bag of precipitation, along with some wet snow today across the Finger Lakes region.

While none of it will create any tremendous travel challenges, it will make it feel more wintry. A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop this morning and continue through the day.

The precipitation will be mixed in the Southern Tier, and mostly wet snow across the Finger Lakes region. However, all of the precipitation will change over to rain by this evening.

The National Weather Service has posted some active alerts, including a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties in the region – including Cayuga, Seneca, Schuyler, Ontario, Yates, Steuben, and Tompkins counties. Those run through the early-morning hours on Wednesday.

Areas that see mostly snowfall should see 2-4 inches of accumulation total. but that will quickly be wiped out tonight when precipitation changes over to rain.
