The Geneva Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is looking to determine the future of its Geneva Enterprise Development Center (GEDC), previously the American Can Co. site. To aid in decision-making, the IDA is issuing a request for proposals from engineering and architectural firms. The goal is to conduct a comprehensive facilities and space needs assessment of the 200,000-square-foot complex, along with cost estimates for potential upgrades.
The GEDC, currently housing various businesses including startups, requires significant improvements to attract more tenants and potentially provide smaller spaces for new startups. The IDA is considering either rehabilitating the facility or selling it, depending on the assessment results. The process, expected to be costly, may require seeking grants for upgrades.
The assessment will cover three phases: evaluating structural and service conditions, analyzing infrastructure and renovation needs with cost estimates, and developing a conceptual plan for potential improvements.
