A part-time Newark police officer was the man shot by a suspect in an incident in East Rochester, according to authorities.
Brad Steve, who works for both the East Rochester and Newark police departments on a part-time basis, responded to a domestic incident on Garfield Street when the incident unfolded on Sunday.
According to the East Rochester Police Department, Steve and another officer, identified as Kyle Walsh, were dispatched to a domestic incident.
They encountered 50-year-old Raymond Noel, who brandished a handgun during a confrontation with cops.
Steve fired his weapon striking Noel in the upper torso. Meanwhile, Noel fired back, striking Steve in the upper abdomen. The bullet struck his ballistic vest, preventing more serious injuries.
Both Steve and Noel were immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and state authorities have been notified about the incident.
