Later today an information session will be held at the Wolcott Fire Hall for residents to learn about dissolving village government.
While a vote is still more than two months away – the entire process was set into motion when a petition receiving 85+ signatures to dissolve.
Ahead of this informational meeting, Matt Horn, Director of Municipal Planning for MRB Group, a local planning firm that isn’t involved in this specific dissolution, but has seen its share of dissolution processes – talked about the opportunities and challenges presented by the process.
“At the end of the day, every community should look at the process as building something new,” Horn explained. “It’s not just getting rid of something, if the community decides to go with dissolving. Everyone needs to sit down at the table – from the village and town – and come up with the pros and cons of dissolving.”
The Laberge Group will host the meeting tonight at 6 p.m. The public is welcomed to it at the Village Fire Hall 6015 New Hartford St.). The Village Board’s regularly scheduled January meeting will follow.
