Mayville man convicted of sex trafficking and abuse of minor

William A. Quinones, 49, of Mayville, NY, has been convicted by a federal jury for sex trafficking and the sexual abuse of a minor. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the verdict, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and could extend to life imprisonment.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron J. Mango and Franz M. Wright, who prosecuted the case, revealed that the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation in July 2021 following a complaint of sexual abuse by Quinones. The inquiry uncovered a total of four minor victims, with one reporting regular sexual abuse by Quinones since she was eight years old, often occurring three to four times a week. The abuse escalated to sexual transactions when the victim turned 13 and continued until she was 16.

Quinones also transported one of the victims to Erie, PA, for drugs and subsequently engaged in sexual intercourse with her at a motel. Throughout the abuse, Quinones used threats of violence and harm to the victims’ families to ensure their silence.

The conviction is the culmination of a collaborative investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Scarpino, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under Sheriff James Quattrone.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 28, 2024, before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., who presided over the trial.
