The New York Mets have brought in an experienced hand to work alongside first-year manager Carlos Mendoza.
Former Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons is nearing a deal to join Mendoza’s staff as his bench coach, according to a report from Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Gibbons, 61, has 14 years of coaching experience at the big-league level, spending parts of 11 seasons with the Blue Jays and three years as a bench coach with the Kansas City Royals.
Eric Chavez was the Mets’ bench coach last season but will move to hitting coach.
