Following tragedy, community fundraising effort underway for Waterloo family

The community is coming together for a local woman working to raise her three grandchildren after the unexpected passing of their mother.

Pam Bailey of Faison, North Carolina has organized a fundraising campaign to assist her sister, Alicia Weir, of Waterloo and her family.

The campaign was launched following the tragic loss of Bailey’s niece in an accident in Alabama on October 27, 2023.

Alicia Weir, who has permanent custody of her three grandchildren aged 11, 10, and 8, currently resides in a small, two-bedroom mobile home in need of significant repairs.

The primary goal of the fundraiser is to acquire a larger home to accommodate the children.

Bailey emphasized the urgent need for community assistance, encouraging widespread sharing and participation in the fundraising efforts.

Weir, who has postponed her retirement plans to raise her grandchildren, faces daily challenges, including sleeping in a recliner due to the lack of space in their current home.

For those who prefer not to donate online, an account titled “The Weir Grandchildren Fund” has been established at Generations Bank in Waterloo.

Donations are accepted either in person or by mail to The Weir Grandchildren Fund in care of Generations Bank PO BOX 111 20 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
