Five Below, a popular discount retailer known for its affordable prices, is set to open a new store in Hornell this week.
The grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, marking the latest addition to the Hornell Plaza, a shopping hub that already houses Wegmans and Walmart. Located at 1010 State Route 36, the new Five Below store occupies the space formerly held by Olympia Sports, adding a fresh dimension to the local retail landscape.
This new Five Below outlet caters to a young demographic, including teens and tweens, with most of its merchandise priced between $1 and $5. Some items, labeled as “extreme value” products, may exceed the $5 threshold.
The store’s layout features eight distinct sections, or “worlds,” encompassing a range of categories like Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Create, Party, Candy, and New & Now. This organization aims to enhance the shopping experience, offering a variety of goods at accessible price points.
Five Below, founded in 2002, has expanded significantly over the years, now operating over 1,300 stores in 42 states. Each store, including the new Hornell location, averages about 9,000 square feet. Nationally, the company employs approximately 22,000 workers, with 6,500 in full-time positions.
