Canandaigua considers resuming July 4 fireworks amid public petition

The future of Canandaigua’s July 4 fireworks remains uncertain.

A recent petition submitted to the City Council urges a reinstatement of the holiday tradition. After pandemic-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the 2022 budget had allocated funds for the return of the fireworks, but a council decision ultimately led to their omission from the 2023 celebrations.

Concerns have been cited about environmental effects on the lake and the potential disturbance to individuals with PTSD, as well as pets and wildlife.

It’s unclear at this point if the fireworks will be reinstated.
