The Schuyler County Republican Committee has named Sarah Barr of Burdett, NY, as the recipient of their 2023 Constitutional Essay Contest Scholarship.
The announcement was made during their annual Fall Dinner, where Barr, a current nursing student at Saint John Fisher College and an Odessa Montour High School alumna, received her award from Committee Chair Maryann Friebis.
Her winning essay tackled the question, “The Bill of Rights: Do We Need All Ten Amendments?” Two other students, Macy Fitzgerald and Ben Campbell, were recognized with special merit awards. The scholarship contest, which annually grants $1,500 to a Schuyler County student, saw Barr’s essay unanimously chosen by a panel that included District Attorney Joe Fazzary and County Attorney Steven Getman.
