Leonard’s Express – a leading transportation services provider offering refrigerated trucking, dry van, warehousing, and freight brokerage services – has been named a 2023 Top Food Chain Provider by Food Chain Digest, the official magazine of Food Shippers of America (FSA). Leonard’s was one of only 25 companies named to the list this year for delivering outstanding service to food shippers.

“Food shippers rely upon their logistics partners and carriers to help manage a productive, efficient, and seamless food chain,” said Brian Everett, Group Publisher and Editorial Director of Food Chain Digest. “A common theme for the companies on the 2023 list is that they have been providing significant value to food shippers at a time when demand in all modes has been surging while the people and assets needed to move and store goods and materials remain scarce. This program highlights providers that are helping shippers successfully navigate through their food chain challenges and accomplish their business goals.”

To be eligible for the Top Food Chain Provider award, companies must successfully complete a rigorous nomination process that includes demonstrating how their service or product solves a business problem for food shippers. Each nominated business must generate at least $5 million in annual revenue and operate either as a third-party logistics provider (3PL), freight broker, motor carrier, or rail, intermodal or maritime company.

Food Chain Digest staff evaluated all nominations to assess the value they provide to food shippers and their achievements over the last 12-18 months. Food Chain Digest also invited professionals from across the industry to vote on nominees, receiving more than 6,000 responses. The final list was then audited and reviewed by FSA leaders to confirm the quality of providers named on the list.

Leonard’s Express has made an impact on the northeastern U.S. food chain over the past few years by building a state-of-the-art refrigerated facility in Shortsville, NY. The 114,500 square-foot temperature-controlled warehouse is improving supply chain capacity and providing shippers such as Wegmans with a viable option for efficiently moving and storing freight.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a Top Food Chain Provider by Food Shippers of America,” said Leonard’s Express CEO Ken Johnson. “We take great pride in delivering food products to grocery stores across the country in a way that maximizes freshness and shelf life for our shipper customers. Our professional drivers and the staff who support them deserve all the credit for winning this prestigious award.”
