Duo impersonating law enforcement tried to seize homeowners guns, police say

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a claim where two men, allegedly impersonating police officers, reportedly tried to confiscate firearms from a resident.

The purported event transpired Wednesday when these men, driving a dark blue van with a white star emblem on the door, approached the homeowner.

These individuals were clad in gray uniforms marked with black trouser stripes, a fabric badge, and a blue cap with a gold star emblem. While one of the suspects is described as a stocky white male, standing around 5’9″ with blue eyes and a reddish goatee, his accomplice is a tall black male wearing an identical outfit.

Following a brief discussion with the homeowner, the duo left without causing any further incidents. No similar complaints have been registered with the Sheriff’s Office thus far.
