The Penn Yan Village Board has imposed a six-month halt on the approval and processing of new short-term rental properties.
The Finger Lakes Times reports this decision was made to provide officials an opportunity to more closely evaluate the issue surrounding these rentals.
The moratorium passed with a 5-2 vote. Mayor Don Condella revealed that the increasing number of short-term rentals, with over 20 being approved recently, prompted this move.
While there have been occasional complaints about disturbances, the main concern is the trend of out-of-state individuals purchasing properties to convert them into short-term rentals, potentially reducing single-family homes availability for potential Penn Yan residents.
