Wayne County announced Monday the commencement of a significant broadband enhancement project, directing $8 million from its federal American Rescue Plan allocation toward the expansion.
By the close of 2025, Wayne County aims to bolster its digital connectivity across all areas, planning the creation of 1,400 new broadband “passings” – points where residences or businesses can link up with fiber routes on roadsides.
The overarching goal of this endeavor is to narrow the digital gap in the Finger Lakes region, specifically in marginalized, rural sectors. The county’s total fund from the American Rescue Plan stands at $17 million.
FingerLakes1.com is the region’s leading all-digital news publication. The company was founded in 1998 and has been keeping residents informed for more than two decades. Have a lead? Send it to [email protected].
