The proposed Newark Canal Front Hotel and Conference Center has been awarded a $1 million grant by New York state’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, one of 40 projects splitting over $27 million.
The Newark hotel project, run by Gorham-based Chrisanntha Construction Corp., is expected to be constructed on a vacant VanBuren Street lot.
The projected cost of the 98-room hotel stands at $18.3 million, with $2 million already earmarked from state Downtown Revitalization Initiative funds.
Chris Iversen, president of Chrisanntha, told the Finger Lakes Times he was grateful for the funding, but noted the project is not currently “shovel-ready” due to a lack of sufficient funding.
