Steuben man charged with assault, kidnapping, strangulation, and illegal possession of weapon

Sheriff Jim Allard reported the arrest of Joseph M. Wilson, 41, of Pulteney on August 3 following a violent incident earlier this week.


According to investigators, the victim was held against their will. Wilson is alleged to have held the victim against their will for an extended period, subjecting them to physical injury, strangulation, and threatening them with a shotgun.

Additionally, he reportedly damaged the victim’s phone during the incident.

Wilson has been charged with several serious offenses, including first-degree kidnapping, second-degree strangulation, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

He was arraigned and will answer those charges at a later date.
