The New York Mets reportedly made a trade just minutes after Thursday’s 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the club is sending veteran closer David Robertson to the Miami Marlins in exchange for infielder Marco Vargas and catcher Ronald Hernandez, both of which are young Rookie League players.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that Robertson is owed about $3.7 million, and the Mets are sending nothing to the Marlins to cover the cost.
The 38-year-old Robertson, who is a free agent after the 2023 season, recorded 14 saves and posted a 2.05 ERA over 44 innings with New York this season.
