An incident on Sunday evening resulted in the arrest of a man by the Ithaca Police Department after he allegedly tried to forcibly take control of an officer’s gun.
Miguel Matos, 50, was initially detained as part of an unrelated investigation into a reported dispute on Cleveland Ave, according to the police department.
The situation escalated when Matos reportedly attempted to grab an officer’s firearm multiple times while he was being taken into custody at the conclusion of the initial investigation. Subsequently, Matos was charged with Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Matos was arraigned and remanded to Tompkins County Jail without bail. One officer sustained minor injuries during the encounter with Matos, as reported by the Ithaca Police Department.
