Cuyler Elementary upheld its longstanding tradition of celebrating Flag Day on June 14 with hundreds of students and community members braving the rain to attend the annual ceremony.
The event not only marks the approval of the first US flag design in 1777 but also serves as an homage to the freedom it symbolizes and the individuals who have fought to protect that freedom.
Air Force veteran and Red Creek American Legion member, Denny Hadcock, emphasized the significance of the ceremony as a means of imparting a deeper understanding of respect for the flag and freedom to students.
The event featured multiple patriotic performances, including renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner, Grand Old Flag, and Yankee Doodle Dandee by Cuyler students and teachers. Additionally, 22 students were awarded for their essay submissions on the theme of freedom.
