Cayuga County man sentenced to 5 years for possessing unregistered handgun

Donnie R. Birdline, 21, faced sentencing in Cayuga County Court this week for charges of second-degree weapon possession.

The Citizen reports that Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone handed Birdline a sentence of five years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

This comes after Birdline pleaded guilty to weapon possession charges as part of an earlier agreement.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Birdline in October 2022, following a response to a vehicle obstructing traffic in Fleming.

Birdline, the alleged driver, was found to be in possession of an unregistered handgun, reported stolen from Florida.
