In the village of Groton, firefighters rapidly responded to and controlled a fire confined to the kitchen of a second-floor apartment in a multi-unit building early Sunday evening.
The incident, which temporarily shut down Main Street, was initially reported at 5:50 pm as a possible outdoor fire.

Groton Fire Department, assisted by Dryden, Freeville, and McLean fire departments, managed the situation efficiently with no injuries reported among residents or firefighters on the scene.
