The trial date for Wayne Ellison Jr. and Christopher Kesterson, who stand accused in the 2022 fatal shooting of former local resident William Waugh, has been scheduled for August 21.

Presided over by Judge Barry Porsch the proceedings will start with jury selection. Ellison and Kesterson have been charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, linked to the shooting of Texas-resident Waugh near the Ontario County line.

Authorities suggest that a dispute following a bar fight was the probable motive for the crime which occurred in the early hours of September 30.

Police investigation, witness statements, and interviews have led to the apprehension of the suspects, who had left the crime scene.

Ellison, a resident of Waterloo and believed to be the shooter, was arrested in Tampa, while Kesterson, of Phelps, was taken into custody in Geneva on the day of the incident.

In the meantime, Seneca County District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz hasn’t ruled out a potential plea deal. Both defendants remain in custody at the Seneca County Correctional Facility, awaiting trial.
