Moravia’s USPCO acquired by Core & Main: What does it mean?

Core & Main, a prominent national infrastructure equipment manufacturer based in St. Louis, has announced its acquisition of Cayuga County’s UPSCO, a manufacturing firm specializing in utility infrastructure products and services. UPSCO, headquartered in Moravia, has sales offices across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest regions of the United States, and was recognized as one of the 2021 Best Companies to work for in New York by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group.

Steve LeClair, Core & Main’s Chief Executive Officer, praised UPSCO’s achievements and commitment to high-quality customer service in a news release, noting that their prefabricated meter set offering complements Core & Main’s existing meter business and fabrication capabilities. “We share the commitment to furthering reliable infrastructure and are excited to work together to continue delivering high-quality customer service to our combined customer base,” LeClair said.

Established in 1965, UPSCO has been a pioneer in developing the prefabricated meter set for the natural gas industry. The company has evolved over the years to accommodate the ever-changing needs of its customers, offering a one-stop solution for utility and underground infrastructure requirements. UPSCO’s extensive knowledge of locally specified energy infrastructure products enables it to provide utilities, contractors, and material integrators with top-notch solutions.

Core & Main President Brad Cowles expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “Our shared cultural values, commitment to repairing and building our nation’s infrastructure, and expertise strongly position us for continued growth well into the future.” UPSCO’s co-owners, Andy Boos and Dan Pajak, also expressed confidence in the partnership and the opportunities it presents for their team members as part of the Core & Main family.

Core & Main focuses on the distribution of water, wastewater, storm drainage, and fire protection products and related services, employing approximately 4,500 people across 320 locations in the United States.
