Wells College campus safety sergeant accused of sexually assaulting teen for years

A 60-year-old man from Aurora has been arrested by State Police and charged with first-degree sex abuse and use of a child in a sexual performance, both classified as class B and C felonies, respectively.

David A. Hewitt is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old for the past four years. The victim had allegedly been subjected to sexual contact by Hewitt during that time.

Hewitt was taken into custody and transported to the Cayuga County Jail. He was arraigned on Monday morning.

Hewitt was employed by Wells College and served as a campus safety sergeant. In a statement to The Citizen, Wells College said that Hewitt was terminated from his position after the arrest.

State Police are urging anyone who may have had contact with Hewitt to come forward and speak with investigators. They can be reached at 315-255-2767.
