Luke Gaffney, a resident of Aurelius, has been acquitted of attempted murder and assault charges in connection with the stabbing of a Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputy in 2020.
However, he was found guilty of assaulting a police officer.
District Attorney Brittany Grome-Antonocci confirmed that Gaffney now faces a possible sentence of 10-30 years in prison for the assault on the officer. The incident occurred in October 2020, when Gaffney stabbed a sheriff’s deputy who had attempted to enter his home and seize his firearms.
Gaffney’s legal team has stated that they intend to appeal the verdict, and the case will now move forward to sentencing in June.
