The Buffalo Sabres held a two-goal lead three times but were unable to secure two points as they fell to the Washington Capitals 5-4 in a shootout on Wednesday night.

Ilya Lyubushkin, JJ Peterka, Tyson Jost, and Zemgus Girgensons found the back of the net for the Sabres. Peyton Krebs collected a pair of assists. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 35-of-39 shots.

Buffalo went 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Sabres will be back in action on Friday when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m.
