A traffic stop in Rochester on Tuesday turned into a police chase and the recovery of two guns and narcotics.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Weaver Street when a motorist stopped in the middle of the roadway, blocking traffic. When a marked State Police unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop and activated its emergency lights, the driver, identified as Whitney R. Scott, 41, of Rochester, fled the scene, leading to a brief pursuit.
During the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle threw two .45 caliber handguns and narcotics from the car, which the police were able to recover.
Eventually, the police were able to apprehend Scott and the passenger, Elfin Elliot, 39, of Rochester, without incident.
Both were charged with four counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful fleeing.
Following their arrest, Scott and Elliot were transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
