Bishop Matthew Clark facing serious health decline

Bishop Emeritus Matthew Clark, the former leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, is facing a serious decline in his health.

In a letter sent on Wednesday, current Bishop of Rochester, Salvatore Matano, informed priests, deacons, and the faithful of the diocese that Clark’s condition “is now quite serious.”


Clark, who is now 85, served as the head of the Diocese of Rochester from 1979 to 2012.

In 2019, he announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
