Five displaced after mobile home destroyed by fire in Clifton Springs

Emergency management officials in Ontario County provided an update on a mobile home fire that was reported during the morning hours on Wednesday.

Around 7 a.m. firefighters from Clifton Springs were called to County Road 25 for a structure fire.

Clifton Springs was assisted by Phelps, Seneca Castle, Shortsville, Port Gibson, Newark, and Fairville fire departments.

Tankers were used by various departments to haul water from a remote water source for fire suppression. The fire was placed under control about an hour after it was reported.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants.

An adult woman and four children were not home at the time, but lost their home. The family’s pets died in the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. An electric space heater is believed to be the cause.
