State police investigating after fatal crash on Rt. 104: SUV overturns, ignites after slamming into bridge abutment

State troopers confirmed one person was killed in a fatal crash along a busy stretch of State Route 104 in Webster.

A 2020 Jeep Renegade was observed traveling at a high speed on Route 104 by a trooper, who then attempted to catch up to the vehicle.

The Renegade drove off the shoulder of the road and crashed into a bridge abutment at Five Mile Line Road, overturning and catching fire. The state trooper used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.


The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The West Webster Fire Department and the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the crash.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family members. The New York State Office of the Attorney General is also investigating.
