Three people have been arrested and a fourth is in critical condition after a high-speed police pursuit ended in a crash in Elmira, New York. At around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, officers pulled over a vehicle on Walnut Street. However, passengers in the car attempted to flee and the vehicle took off, reaching speeds of over 80 mph on city streets.

The police pursuit was eventually called off, but a short time later, authorities received a report of a car crash involving the same vehicle. One passenger was ejected from the car and sustained a head injury, requiring transport to a hospital. The vehicle was found to have major damage and all occupants were taken into custody.

A loaded handgun was recovered from the car, and all occupants will face charges of criminal possession of a weapon. The driver, 20-year-old Sky Volckhausen of Ithaca, will also face charges of vehicle and traffic violations, reckless endangerment, and unlawful fleeing. Dionte Henry, 22, of Ithaca, and a 14-year-old male from Elmira will also face charges.

The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the New York State Police, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Elmira Police Department, and the Horseheads Police Department. The EPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to call them at 607-737-5626.
