The New York Mets are making changes to their coaching staff.
The club is promoting Eric Chavez to bench coach and Jeremy Barnes to hitting coach, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Chavez joined manager Buck Showalter’s staff as the hitting coach on January 6. The 44-year-old helped the Mets’ team batting average increase from .239 in 2021 to .259 in 2022.
Barnes, 35, served as the Mets’ assistant hitting coach during the 2022 season.
Glenn Sherlock, who served as Showalter’s bench coach last season, will become the team’s quality control coach and catching coordinator.
