Tage Thompson’s six-point night leads Sabres past Red Wings, 8-3

Tage Thompson notched his second career hat trick and collected a career-high six points as the Buffalo Sabres cruised past the Detroit Red Wings, 8-3, on Monday night at KeyBank Center. With the victory, Buffalo improved to 6-3-0 on the season.

Thompson became the sixth player in Sabres history, and the first since Pat LaFontaine, to record six or more points in a single game.

Jack Quinn, Jeff Skinner, Rasmus Dahlin, Dylan Cozens, and Rasmus Asplund also scored for Buffalo. Skinner became the 212th player in NHL history to reach 300 career goals. Four players had multi-point nights, and 14 collected at least a point. Eric Comrie started between the pipes and stopped 15-of-18 shots.

Buffalo capitalized on two of their five power plays and killed their lone penalty.

The Sabres will wrap up their four-game homestand on Wednesday when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:30 p.m.
