The Buffalo Sabres hung around with the Flordia Panthers but fell just short, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at KeyBank Center.
Buffalo trailed 4-3 going into the third period, but Flordia played lock-down defense and did not give the Sabres much time or space to tie the game.
Alex Tuch and Zemgus Girgensons netted their first goals of the season. Rasmus Dahlin scored for the second time in as many games.
Eric Comrie made his Sabres debut and stopped 33-of-37 shots. He also collected an assist on Tuch’s goal, becoming the first player in franchise history to record an assist in his debut.
The Sabres will head west to begin a four-game road trip, starting Tuesday night in Edmonton against the Oilers. The puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m.
