Goodwill of the Finger Lakes engages community and promotes sustainability during summer events

Goodwill of the Finger Lakes hosted its inaugural Thrift Crawl on Wednesday, August 17, and Summer Social: Sustainability Under the Stars on Thursday, August 18. The two nights’ festivities focused on engaging the community and promoting ongoing sustainability initiatives. Proceeds raised support the organization’s community-focused programs.

“We are very thankful to our guests who attended both evenings’ events,” President & CEO Jennifer Lake said. “These are new and fun ways to celebrate the increasing role of sustainability in our daily lives. Equally, these events celebrated the impact of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes programs and services that benefit the lives of our neighbors and loved ones across our region.”

The proceeds benefited Goodwill’s mission programs and services including Goodwill Vision Enterprises (GVE, formerly known as ABVI), 211/LIFE LINE and the Good Neighbor Program.

The Goodwill Thrift Crawl provided transportation to Goodwill’s Victor, Macedon and Webster stores. Guests enjoyed snacks and beverages, discounts at stores and were given styling advice and thrifting tips from Goodwill’s “Thrift-Fluencers.” The event coincided with National Thrift Shop Day, a day to support local thrift shops while raising awareness for charitable organizations. The Summer Social: Sustainability Under the Stars took place at Strasenburgh Planetarium. The night’s event included hors d’oeuvres, beverages, music and a sustainable fashion show.

“Goodwill is beyond thankful for the community’s support,” Vice President of Community Engagement Jennifer Boutte said. “These events celebrated the pivotal role of sustainability in our sartorial choices, and Goodwill’s central role in championing this movement.”
